Spirit of the Forest, Drunk Drivers, and Polymer Clay

Hello all and I’m sorry to have disappeared for a bit. A week ago I was rear-ended by a drunk driver and it left me very sore. How scary was the fact that the lady was a nurse on her way to care for a patient. Yikes!!! All is well now, my car is on it’s way to being repaired, and life goes on once more.

Below is a really pretty treasury curated by AutumnBlaze that I am in (Woodland Frolic Necklace). You can click on the pictures and it will take you to each shop, I highly recommend checking out the artists here, some amazing hand crafted art.

I’m working on a few new pieces right now and am thinking of putting together some tutorials to post. My question to you all is what type of tutorial would you like to see? Leave a comment as it will help me decide which direction to take. My latest miniature is a dragon or gargoyle. I love to work in miniature but it is hard to detail all at once and so I am series baking it as I progress. Next comes feet, claws and teeth all in translucent clay, continue on with the spikes on back, add wings, a tail and paint. The gargoyle is only 3” tall!

Fall on Friday

It’s a cool lovely day here in New England. The leaves are getting ready to turn color once again. It’s my favorite time of year and as I mix up a new batch of polymer clay for some leaf pendants, I wanted to share this lovely array of leaves shared by David Shane Odom, a truly gifted artist. A leaf is one of the most beautiful gifts of nature, from the time they newly bud in fresh citrus colors, to deep, rich earthy colors as they mature. Shane says it wonderfully,

“Leaves are the glowing gems that inspires our art, enraptures out hearts, and enriches our gardens. Once the leaves start falling, they are a wealth of carbon and organic matter to be carefully gathered, and later we take up their nutrients through our vegetables, and make them one with us. You are all Oak Trees, and Maples, and Sycamores, and Poplars.”…David Shane Odom

Miss Mouse loves Halloween! As I sit and sculpt she patiently sits and watches squeaking away about being too small to join in the Halloween festivities, but wanting to dress up. I felt so badly for her that I stitched together a wee witch hat of softest ultra suede dusted with black hologram glitter. She holds a polymer clay acorn that has been glittered to resemble a pumpkin and accented with a copper wired handle. After all, mice are way too tiny to hold a real pumpkin, aren’t they?

She’s all set to go to her new home and will make a wonderful year round companion for you to display with your favorite collectibles!
Hand sculpted of air dry clay, colored with acrylics and sealed. Her leaf is a polymer clay imprint of a real oak leaf colored in gorgeous fall tones. Her hat is hand stitched Ultrasuede, glittered and has a beaded trim finish.

Zombie Kitty, Mad Jack & the Boneyard

It’s a gorgeous sunny Saturday and I’m working on a few new pieces using my air dry clay, updating my Esty shop, as well as revisiting my “boneyard” to finish up on an old piece I started and let sit for two years. Then it’s off to the races for the evening and some time off from sculpting.

What Zombie Kitty and Mad Jack will end up being is anyone’s guess, they haven’t informed me yet, although Jack is looking longingly at a plant pot sitting on the shelf. Zombie kitty? Well she is a zombie and has no opinion… she’s a zombie!

In revisiting the “boneyard”, the place where artists keep all of their unfinished pieces, I have wanted to finish this piece but have never. I love the base, I love the face on the girl but for some reason they sat…till now.

Since becoming a member of a wonderful online community, The Hive, I have been so inspired by the talent, camaraderie and fun there that I’m itching to finish this now. For those of you who are not members but love crafts, art, and getting to know some pretty cool people just pop on over and join. You won’t be sorry.
